"Galen
Staengl is one of the few mechanical engineers I have
worked with that really understands LEED! We appreciated
his willingness to use "back of the envelop"
life cycle cost analysis early in the design of our
Freeman Hall renovation to evaluate different HVAC solutions
before settling on the system that made the most sense
for us."

Freeman Hall is a historical
dormitory on the University of Richmond campus. This
major renovation upgraded the dorm rooms, and completely
replaced the building hvac system. The renovation is
targeting LEED Silver.
The upgraded HVAC system includes a dedicated outdoor
air ventilation system which incorporates heat recovery
from the building exhaust air. Heating and cooling
is provided to the rooms by four pipe fan coil units.
Staengl Engineering provided mechanical design and
energy modeling for the project.
