The new Poquoson Elementary School is an 80,000 square foot elementary school building which consists of classrooms, staff offices, a cafeteria, kitchen, media center, and gymnasium. The building heated and cooled by a ground source heat pumps system, with dedicated outside air units which provide fresh ventilation air and recover heat from exhaust air. The building has achieved a LEED Gold level certification.
Staengl Engineering provided commissioning services for the project. The HVAC system consisted of variable refrigerant volume systems and energy recovery ventilators providing ventilation air.
