While attending Old Dominion University, Carter took an internship with an HVAC controls company, which opened the door into the world of smart buildings and energy saving solutions. Working as a controls engineer, he travelled around the United States working on projects ranging from small health care clinics to industrial food plants, large public school systems to state penitentiaries.
After a few years of being out in the field, Carter decided to take his hands-on experience and transition into electrical systems design. Now working on projects from conceptual design all the way through to final construction, Carter continues to gain skills on a wide range of high-performance buildings.
Outside of work, Carter enjoys spending time with his family and keeping up with tasks on the family farm. Most of his time is spent processing fire wood, tending to multiple crops, and maintaining fencing to keep the cows on the farm.
